Social Capital Inc. Blog: Engaging with Foundations and Network Weaving

I was surprised to learn from a recent Center for Effective Philanthropy survey how few of my nonprofit colleagues are using social media to engage with funders. Several foundation leaders followed with thoughtful articles on the subject, so I thought I’d weigh in with 8 Reasons for Nonprofits to Get Social with Foundations.

Earlier this summer, I had a chance to combine two of my passions: food and community building (I manage to link those two a fair amount!).  During a casual lunch with a Social Capital Inc. partner, I learned that Wendy is passionate canner and that her family is able to supply almost all their food year-round from their farm (on top of other full-time jobs). Wendy offered to teach a canning class in our local community. I wrote about this in Reason #97 to Build Relationships: The Canning Connection. A neat re-connection was made as a result of this canning workshop, which I wrote about in Network  Weaving: Have Lunch, Add Twitter.

In addition to posting original content, I also use this blog to roundup and highlight things I’m writing elsewhere. Today, highlights from my Social Capital Inc. blog.

About David

I'm a proud Dad and husband living in Woburn, MA, just north of Boston. I've created my Wordpress site as a place to put together and share my many diverse interests. These include my work at Social Capital Inc. (http://socialcapitalinc.org), my passion for good food & wine that I share at Cooking Chat (http://cookingchat.blogspot.com), poetry and photos (often inspired by the beautiful pond we live near), and my exploration of new places and ideas. In addition to those two websites above, here are other places you can find me online: Twitter: @socialcap (related to my work, most active handle), @davidbcrowley (general), @cookingchat @DC_Woburn (of local interest in & around my community, also what I use for FourSquare) Google+: David B.
