I was up early enough this morning to be greeted by the full chorus of night sounds, as the bull frogs and various insects weren’t yet ready to call it a night at 5 a.m. I noticed the sounds to have grown distinctly louder from just a week before, as if some of the pond creatures are marking their calendars so they know to turn it up come August. I wonder what it might be that’s contributing to the increased cacophony? I’m inclined to attribute the loudest sounds I was hearing to cicadas, but I’m not sure. Insights welcomed!
Now, in the spirit of accuracy, I must confess that the photo on top was taken last week while it was still July. I like it better than what I was able to capture this morning and wanted to share. Below is what things looked like in my first August morning walk of the summer.
